Woodmansterne Primary

RE

We offer a broad and rich RE curriculum which explores religions in a variety of ways. Our aim is to enhance all pupils’ awareness and understanding of different religions and beliefs.

Throughout their time here at Woodmansterne, children have the opportunity to learn about and understand a range of religions and world views both independently and collaboratively. SMSC, personal growth and community cohesion are featured throughout and are there to ensure opportunities for children to develop positive attitudes and values and to reflect on and relate their learning in RE to their own experiences. Children are encouraged to develop and express their own ideas, values and identities. Our intent is to make sure that children understand the relevance of RE in today’s modern world and how it affects their lives.

Throughout the year, we get to celebrate important festivals at St Peter’s Church and our children also get the opportunity to visit places of worship and to hear from visitors from different faiths, to enhance their understanding and bring their learning of different religions to life. Our Collective Worship Policy can be found here.

Implementation

Our RE curriculum is taught through half termly RE mornings (two per half term) with a series of linked lessons, culminating towards increased knowledge and understanding of planned themes within a specific religion or group of religions.
