It is our intent to deliver a high quality, enjoyable and inspirational curriculum that encourages all pupils to succeed and to nurture individual excellence.  We want every child to leave Woodmansterne with at least one sport which they love and would want to take further.

Our school values are at the heart of our teaching and we see PE as an important vehicle for developing key behaviours for learning and supporting physical and mental health.  We encourage the children in all aspects of school life to become more independent, collaborative and show resilience when things get challenging.  PE offers real opportunities to demonstrate and develop these behaviours.

Implementation

Our PE curriculum has been designed to offer a broad range of sporting opportunities for all our children.  We know the activities that our children enjoy both in and out of school and we are constantly evolving our curriculum and coverage to offer new and varied experiences.

We offer motivating and enjoyable PE lessons which develop new skills and build on those already established. Children are taught PE over two lessons each week, often with outside specialists coaching, as well as being given opportunity to participate in extra sporting activities, such as the Active Mile, using our large school grounds.

We use a range of sports, resources such as our outdoor gym and extra-curricular clubs to target engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.

Our excellence stream receives a bespoke programme of additional sports teaching and we use this as an opportunity to identify children for selection to our school teams, as well as signposting them to local sports clubs and development programmes which will help to develop their talent further.
