A warm welcome to Woodmansterne Primary School and thank you for the interest you have shown in our wonderful, creative school.
We are very proud of our school and its values. At Woodmansterne we see our role as facilitators 'Growing Learners for Life'. We nurture and equip our pupils with the skills and attitude to continue learning throughout life; developing them, in partnership with families and the community, into resilient, considerate and respectful citizens. We aim to achieve this through a broad, rich, creative curriculum with high expectations of progress and achievement that enables all our children to aim high, take risks and fulfil their potential.
The village of Woodmansterne, in Reigate and Banstead, lies at the edge of the Surrey County Council boundary with the London boroughs of Sutton and Croydon. This unique location of a rural setting at the edge of a city provides our children with numerous opportunities to access and interact with their local and national community.
Our Aims and Values
Growing Learners for Life
At Woodmansterne Primary School we work in partnership with children, families, staff, governors and the wider community to:
- Create a culture of excellence in which everyone feels motivated and trusted to take risks
- Provide a first class learning environment which recognises and fulfils the academic, social and emotional potential of every child
- Recognise and meet the challenge that every child is unique and offer what is right for them
- Develop pupils who love the challenge of learning and are resilient to failure
We see our values as integral to achieving our aims and we consistently reiterated them through our classroom practice, learning environments and wider school life. They underpin our teaching of British Values, our PSHCE curriculum and are supported by effective and consistent behaviour management across the whole school.
Children are recognised for their respectfulness towards everyone through the reward of school behaviour points. We encourage respect by demonstrating a caring nature, being polite to all, looking after property and listening to others. We expect mutual respect for others to be modelled by all stakeholders.
We teach our children to be accountable for their individual actions through their learning and behaviour. We provide boundaries so they are able to make choices through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Children are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms in the school environment, as well as the wider community.
We recognise that physical, social and emotional health are important factors in a child’s wellbeing. At Woodmansterne, our aim is to provide all children with strategies to increase their resilience in learning, as in life, to teach them to persevere through setbacks, take on challenges and risk making mistakes to reach a goal.
We believe that reflection is a vital step in our children’s learning and progress. We teach our children to think carefully about their learning and actions by getting them to recognise their strengths and weaknesses. We also encourage them to have quiet time alone and with others in order to be happy, engaged and challenged learners.
