Music
It is our intent to make music an enjoyable learning experience. Our objective is for the children to gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing. Those less confident in academic subjects or with special educational needs can express themselves fully through music and we want to support children in developing their musical skills and a love of music which stays with them for the rest of their lives.

Implementation
Music is integrated throughout our Early Years provision through the daily singing of nursery rhymes, simple songs and playing of percussion instruments and is supported by the Jolly Music scheme.
The Kapow scheme of work is used from Reception to year 6 to ensure a wide exposure to different genres, historical periods and traditions of music, with lots of practical opportunities to explore and develop as musicians and singers.
Years 1 to 5 are also offered whole class ensemble instrumental teaching in djembe, recorder, ukulele and glockenspiel with a specialist music teacher, whilst year 6 learn how to use music technology to manipulate and create sounds.
Woodmansterne offers a range of musical clubs (KS1 music club, recorder, ukulele and the school choir) It is our aim to provide children with as many opportunities to perform as possible and children regularly perform in class, during singing assemblies, to parents/carers and to the wider community.
As a school, we are guided by the Model Music Curriculum (2021) and encourage children to participate in a variety of musical activities through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children.
